About this watch

udemars Piguet 36mm – 18k Yellow Gold – VZSSc Movement (19 Jewels)

This rare 36mm Audemars Piguet is powered by the VZSSc, part of the legendary VZ-series — considered by many collectors to be among the most beautiful and refined hand-wound movements ever used by Audemars Piguet.

Production period

The VZ-series was produced from the early 1940s until the late 1950s.

Across almost two decades, only around 2,000 movements were delivered to Audemars Piguet. These were used in their most exclusive pieces: chronographs, triple calendars, perpetual calendars, and high-grade time-only watches.

A total production of roughly 2,000 watches in nearly 20 years makes the VZ-family extremely rare, even by early AP standards.

About the VZSSc

Within this family, the VZSSc is one of the most desirable variants. It features:

A central seconds mechanism integrated into the 13-ligne Valjoux architecture
19 jewels
Hand-finished bevels, polished edges, and heat-blued screws
The characteristic high-end finishing of AP’s artisanal era
A perfect balance of mechanical robustness and haute-horlogerie refinement

Many collectors consider the VZ-series to represent Audemars Piguet at its absolute peak: ultra-low production, extensive hand-finishing, and technical sophistication on the level of early Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.
