About this watch

An exceptionally rare and highly collectible Rolex Oyster Perpetual “Hooded Bubbleback”, reference 3065, dating from the 1940s.

This remarkable example features a beautiful combination of stainless steel and rose gold, distinguished by its unusual hooded lugs that flow seamlessly into the matching two-tone Rolex Oyster bracelet.

The watch is fitted with a charming champagne-coloured “Error-Proof” dial, featuring a distinctive combination of Roman and Arabic numerals, luminous hour markers and beautiful blued steel hands. This unusual dial design, later known as the California dial, was patented by Rolex in the early 1940s and remains one of the most fascinating designs from the brand’s early history.

The reference 3065 is among the most desirable variations of the legendary Bubbleback family. Finding one in this attractive rose gold and steel configuration, particularly with a matching two-tone Oyster bracelet and such a characterful dial, is becoming increasingly difficult.

A wonderful example of early Rolex craftsmanship and a truly special piece for the discerning vintage Rolex collector.
