About this watch
An exceptionally beautiful and rare stainless steel Vacheron & Constantin from the late 1940s or early 1950s, featuring a superb 35mm waterproof-style case manufactured by the renowned Swiss casemaker C.R. Spillmann.
The beautifully preserved silvered dial features elegant applied rose gold hour markers, matching rose gold hands, a finely detailed railroad minute track and a perfectly balanced subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock.
The combination of the warm rose gold details and the stainless steel case is simply stunning.
The substantial 35mm Spillmann case, with its screw-down caseback, beautifully sculpted lugs and sharp, well-defined lines, is particularly impressive. These early waterproof Vacheron Constantin cases are among the most desirable designs of the period.
Inside is the highly regarded manually wound Vacheron Constantin calibre P453/3B, a beautifully finished movement based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre ébauche.
In my opinion, this is quite simply the finest and most beautiful stainless steel time-only Vacheron Constantin I have ever encountered.
An extraordinary example of vintage Vacheron Constantin at its very best.
